On Friday the 2nd of May at approx 1pm The Premonition Box was removed from Stockland Mall in Baulkham Hills and taken to its new location at Wrights rd Reserve, Kellyville where it was hung high in the air above the stage and displayed for all to see till 9am Sunday the 4th of May. We arrived at the The Hills Relay For Life bright and early Saturday morning to set up our show and show our support. It was a very cold and windy morning. If you have never been to a Relay for life event I suggest you go and check it out in your area. Its an incredible overnight weekend to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. It inspires me every year seeing hundred to thousands of people dedicating themselves to walk for 24hrs to reach his/her own personal goal and challenge. Its a very eye opening experience. We have been supporting the Hills Relay for the past 3 or 4 years now and it still amazes me every year seeing so many people getting involved for such a great cause! My service to the event has been to provide good quality entertainment. Lately I have been wanting to attract more attention for the Relay by trying to create new stunts and illusions. To try and keep things fresh and interesting. Late last year we promoted the event through a personal challenge of mine known as The Darkness. A demonstration on driving a car while being completely blind folded. A personal challenge. This year we introduced The Premonition. A prediction that was made on the 10th of April which was to be secured inside of a locked box and displayed at the local mall for the public to see and hopefully have them come to the Relay in order to see the end result. I must say regardless of the weather we had (cold and wet) we had a great turn out this year. Saturday's show went very well and I'm happy to report The Premonition (prediction) had all taken place before we opened the box. Video can be found through www.facebook.com/magictobelieve. What was more impressive for me personally is seeing all the people who took part in the 24hr relay. Saturday night was raining and freezing cold and yet these people were still walking non stop till Sunday morning. What I did during the weekend was only illusion but what these people did and continue to do every year is real MAGIC! A job well done to everyone involved with The Hills Relay For Life. Now that this years Relay is over, I have to go back to the drawing board and see what we can create to top this years effect. We have a few things in mind but only time will tell. This past month we have been working on 2 new illusions that will complete the 90min production of the grand show we have been working on for some time now. The 3 grand illusions that were getting custom built for us for the last year to two years have been finished and two of them are on the way to Sydney. Good news as we have been waiting for these for some time now. We can finally have a play with them once they arrive safely and start rehearsals. A few weeks ago we started to build the last (hopefully) illusion for "The Journey" show. A wall of spikes that will come crashing into me if I don't get out of its way in time. This idea had been in our mind for the past almost 6 years. Going through some of our illusion books and blue prints I came across a drawing that I had drawn during my high school years of the exact same illusion that we are currently building. Took my by shock when I saw the drawing. It was one of those special moments for me. A moment in time when people used to tell me "it cant be done" and that "your wasting your time with all this magic stuff". If you want something bad enough and you believe in yourself despite what others may say, you will find a way to prove them all wrong. Will have pictures of this illusions up on our facebook once its ready. Cant wait for the final result to have it appear on stage! Today we performed for Microsoft at Novotel Sydney Olympic Park. The event had around 350 people which is a small audience to what we have played for in the past however they were all a fantastic audience with several international VIP's. The show had been specifically tailored for Microsoft as a team building show to demonstrate the possibilities of what we can achieve when we work together as a team. It was a personal challenge for us to come up with something new. It meant we had to create a few effects that wasn't just about "smoke and mirrors". There were hidden messages within the show. The performance finished off with one of our newly dangerous effects that we have been testing out for the past 4 months. Keeping the key word for the event "teamwork" in mind, we came up with a way to combine this effect/demonstration to fit the theme. The effect involved a 20cm very sharp knife! It was a demonstration of an illusion that combined 5 members of the audience to work with me (teamwork) and do something impossible. It played very well and no one died. It was a good day ;) We are extremely proud to announce that Australian clothing line Meba Fashion - Kosmo Lupo Jeans Denim with a difference have teamed up with The Magic of Jack Daniels. Meba Fashion are on the cutting-edge of style, and make it easy to look great in versatile jeans that tie in with your fast-paced life. http://www.mebafashion.com/ Check them out for the funkiest styles of denim jeans on the planet worn proudly by Sydney illusionist Jack Daniels. Excited to report our brand new illusions are almost ready to be shipped out. We have been working on the music for the past 6 months if not longer trying to find the best possible music for these new "toys". So by the time they arrive we should be able to go right into choreography and hopefully have them ready or tested at least to a live audience. I had the great pleasure in working with The Illusionist 2.0 show this last few weeks. Being able to work with some of the best in the industry and learning so much is something that couldn't be purchased. Lots of long hours and early morning starts but then again that's show business. I had 2 roles in the production. Selling and demonstrating the magic merchandise and "behind the scenes" assisting one of the stars in the show. Every day/night we cheated death at least 2-3 times per day and we lived to do it again for the next show. On the morning of the 11th of January The Illusionists 2.0 family were hit by a news that non of us could have ever imagined. The death of Dr Scott Lewis who played the hypnotist in the show. We had 3 shows to do. 10am, 2pm and 7pm. We arrived at the Sydney Opera House early in the morning to set up and get ready however one of the members were missing and no one knew where they might be. It got closer and closer to show time and there was no sign of Dr Scott Lewis. Unfortunately as the saying goes in show business "the show must go on" we started the show without Dr Scott. Half way through we were informed of the worst. Dr Scott had passed away. The show finished without the audience being aware of anything but back stage was a different story. There was a dark feeling within the room and upon everyone's shoulders... As the first show had finished the audience for the second show were arriving and ready to see the show. The announcement came on saying due to unforeseen circumstances the 2pm show of The Illusionists 2.0 had been cancelled. As you would imagine the people where incredibly upset and angry. We couldn't tell them at this stage why the show had been cancelled for obvious reasons. I could understand and respect the anger in some people but I couldn't understand why some of us don't seem to understand that if a multimillion dollar show announces that it is cancelled due to a unforeseen circumstances we still expect the show to go on..... We get too greedy! For a show of this size to be cancelled means something incredibly bad had to occur. You would think people would be more understanding. Its not like we all went out for a drink and where too drunk to call in for work... So from 2pm to 4pm the producers were in deep thoughts of what they should do. Do we cancel the rest of the shows or do we go on. Everyone in the team was lost. You could see it and you could feel it everywhere you went. I had gotten the chance to know Dr Scott for a short time and he was such a wonderful person. We bumped into each other several times having coffee in mid shows. Shy at times believe it or not. I watched him during his performance from the side of the stage several times and the laughs he gave me I will never forget. 24hrs before he left us I had this incredible urge to have a photo taken with him while he was below stage but there was no one around to take the picture of us two. At 4pm we all got called in for a group meeting and discussed options. We decided the show will go on in dedication to Dr Scott Lewis. As upset as we all were the 7pm show went on in Dr Scotts honor without the audience being aware of it until after the show when Luis De Matos told the audience what had occurred just hours before. The show for us involved in it wasn't the same as one of the family members were missing but together we supported one another and remembered Dr Scott Lewis. The remainder of the shows/tour have all been dedicated Dr Scott Lewis. RIP |
