On the 28th of November 2013 David Copperfield & Jack Daniels made an appearance on Australian morning show Sunrise to promote Project Magic. A Program that uses magic to help those with disabilities, low self esteem and special needs. The filming took place at the new location of The Royal Rehabilitation Center in Sydney, Ryde, where they have been using Project Magic for some time now. It was wonderful getting a tour of the new facilities and the ins and outs of the place. A place where I'm sure David Copperfield would love to see next time he comes back to Sydney. While at the Rehab center we met up with a lovely man, David Manning who had a terrible bike accident early this year. David Manning had been using the Project Magic program and it was wonderful to see his recovery and hear about what he thought of the program. David Copperfield was nice enough to support us once again through his time by having an on air interview with Sydney radio station Mix 106.5 (even though they wanted to know more about his personal life) and then making an appearing on Sunrise. A big thank you to David and his team, David Manning and our wonderful Project Magic team of The Royal Rehab Center.

Well we finally did it and its all over now. "The Darkness" went well yesterday morning (23/11/2013). We were afraid the weather wasn't going to be on our side but lucky for us it was the best conditions for the effect to take place and whats even better is that the rain and thunder started just after we had finished packing up. So what was The Darkness? "The Darkness" was an effect/demonstration that I have been wanting to do for a very long time. A blind folded drive. "The Darkness" was inspired from a personal childhood fear. As a young boy I used to be terrified by the dark, and as I grew older those childhood fears turned into my worst nightmares. In my nightmares I kept on seeing myself driving a car down a pitch black dark road with no light in sight, and I kept on seeing my death over and over again, cause in this nightmare I end up having a fatal accident as I'm driving down this dark road. So "The Darkness" was more of a personal challenge for me and it was my way of trying to overcome my own fears and nightmares. However, "The Darkness" to me also refers to Cancer and all those who have been touched by it. After loosing Hannah to Cancer (a little girl who I had made good friends with at a hospital through our shows) I have been dedicated to do our part for cancer research. If you have gone down this road before or know someone how has you would understand the difficult and sometimes dark times for not only for the person with cancer but also their family and loved ones. So part of "The Darkness" was our way to raise some funds and awareness for Cancer research. On Location: The Drive We were at the Farmers and Fine Food Markets (Castle Hill Showground) by 7:30 in the morning testing the grounds and making sure it was safe to go ahead as we had a lot of rain within the last 48hrs leading up to the event. We had to change the viewing location on the last minute but it wasn't a major issue. The grounds looked safe enough for a go ahead. The public who came out to witness "The Darkness" were a great crowd and hopefully they did enjoy what they saw and they do not try it at home. It was lovely meeting "The Darkness" competition winner Joanne Wormald (a very sweet and excited lady) as well as our two good friends the Mayor of The Hills, Councilor Dr Michelle Byrne and local Journalist from The Hills Shire Times Matt Hagias. Non of my guests knew what they were getting themselves into until the last minute of the actual effect. It was nice to hear what they thought might be happening but they were not even close until it was too late...For them... As I was going to be driving our car completely blindfolded with a stainless steel blindfold and a black heavy duty double clothed head bag, I had to not only trust my guests who were also my passengers in the car but also try and tap into their own energy field as little did they know I had to rely on their own eye sight and energy to be able to safely navigate through the track. We started off with a mind reading demonstration as we had asked Cr. Dr. Michelle Byrne to draw a simple drawing of something that has some meaning to her while my back was turned. It was up to me to then connect my three guests together and try and tap into their energy field and duplicate what was drawn by the Mayor. She drew a cat! Had this not worked and I got the drawing wrong, the whole effect would have been cancelled on that very moment and we wouldn't have gone through with the actual drive. The next step was to have the stainless steel blindfold and the black heavy duty double clothed head bag examined by my guests and one of our audience members to make sure it was free from any trickery. I was then blindfolded. First by the stainless steel blindfold, followed by the black head bag and finally some gaffer tape (a last minute thing that got added) wrapped around the head bag that covered my neck. I wanted to make sure that not even a spec of light was able to enter the bag. I needed to be in total darkness! What I didn't take into consideration was that now with the tape around my neck not only was it pitch black but I wasnt able to get as much breathing air as what I needed. But it was too late to back down now. The audience had come all this way to witness "The Darkness". I had to risk not passing out. I was escorted into the drivers seat as my guests took their seats inside the car. We did a total of two laps around the oval. The first lap I had to trust my guests as they were told to verbally guide me through the track. As they were verbally guiding me through the track I was trying to keep a mental image of what the track looked like, where the bends were, how long did it take to reach each bend, the feel of the car on the gravel/grass, the speed of the car traveling etc. The second lap I asked for no guidance at all as I put my memory skills to the test and navigated through the track at a much faster speed. We almost had a few close calls as my calculations at a higher speed where a little off and at one point I felt like passing out due to not getting enough air during the first lap but we made it to the finish line without killing anyone. Even though my guests had thought the drive was over, I wasn't finished here. I wanted to really push myself and try something that wasn't really a go ahead. I wanted to drive completely off the main tracks and navigate through and around the farmers market where there was trees, telegraph poles, buildings, cars both parked and moving, people walking and other unforeseen challenges. How was I planning to pull this one off? Remember the drawing test I had mentioned above with the Mayor drawing a cat? I was confident enough that I could see the road ahead through the Mayors eyes if only she was to apply pressure and hold my left arm at one particular point. I made sure she only looked straight ahead cause I was now viewing the world through her eyes (and even this wasn't a clear everyday view) Wherever she looked, that's where we went. My breathing had to also be controlled so as to only breath as little as was needed due to not getting enough air flow inside the head bag. A last minute unforeseen scary moment non the less. At one point we had to stop hard as what looked like a tree only a couple of meters away from the front of the car. (Viewing the video footage this morning revealed that we almost went right into a tree head on) this was partly my fault with my instructions for looking straight ahead and making sure correct amount of pressure was applied to my left arm at all times. A few obstacles got in our way. The most scariest moment for me personally was when I could see what looked like shadowy figures a few hundred meters ahead of us. I could not judge the correct distance and or what was approaching us. My guest were fast enough to let me know it was a few people heading our way so we were fast enough to stop and make sure they were out of the way of danger. A few close calls but we made it safely back to the finish line where the audience were waiting for us with a wonderful applause and welcome back. I have now lived my own fears and nightmares and have overcome the challenges of what was seen within my nightmares. What will be coming next? You have to wait and see... Thanks once again to my three brave guests, Cr.Dr.Michelle Byrne, Matt Hagias, Joanne Wormald, as well as Bev Jordan, Allana Zerek, John Dean, Desley Stewart, The Black Castle Events, The Hills Farmers and Fine Food Markets, The Hills Shire Times, The Hills Shire Council, The Hills Relay for Life and everyone else who helped in making "The Darkness" possible including the team of Jack Daniels' Magic to Believe Alison Marie, Hugh Ager, VIP World Entertainment and Willy Martin. "The Darkness" competition did close last night (17/Nov/2013). We would like to thank all of you who took the time to enter the competition. The winner was drawn this morning (18/Nov/2013) Congratulations JOANNE WORMALD, you will be joining Mayor Michelle Byrne and Journalist Matt Hagias and be taken on a ride you will never forget. We hope to see you all on the 23rd of November 2013 at Showground Oval Castle Hill at 9:30am. BELIEVE! Help us fight cancer Relay For Life began in the USA when in 1985 Dr Gordy Klatt raised over $27,000 for his local cancer charity by running around an oval for 24 hours. Since then, thousands of events take place across the globe every year. Being an illusionist, my whole adult life seems to be a secret. I keep my life and my work extremely private, some say my life is THE DARKNESS. However we all know someone who has been touched and or lost a battle to cancer. I myself have lost a family member to cancer, I have friends all over the world who have someone in their lives fighting cancer, but the one that had really touched my life was a little girl named Hannah. Through my involvement of representing David Copperfield's Project Magic, I had the great pleasure of meeting Hannah at a children's hospital a few years ago. Hannah had seen one of my shows at the Children's Hospital. During my visits at the hospital teaching the cancer patients David Copperfield's Project Magic I got to know Hannah quite well. Having been blessed to know this special girl for about 2 years, Hannah unfortunately did loose her battle to cancer weeks before Christmas 2012. The last time I ever got to see Hannah was on the 6th of November 2012 exactly one year ago today. This little girl had touched my life in such a way that she inspired me to create a special illusion dedicated to her that I now close my theater shows with. Hannah was a child who lost her battle to cancer at the age of 9. To this day I have a tear every time I think of her The Hills Relay for Life is a community event to raise funds and awareness about cancer. Every year throughout the world the event honors those whose lives have been touched by cancer,. We celebrate those who survived cancer, we remember those lost to cancer, we make a change to fight cancer. Even though "The Darkness" that will be taking place on the 23rd of November is a personal challenge for me, "The Darkness" can also be a personal challenge to someone who is currently fighting cancer. Join us on the 23rd of November at 9:30am Showground Oval Castle Hill to not only see my darkness but to also help raise awareness and research funds for those fighting THE DARKNESS. To find out more on how you can help visit http://hillsrelayforlife.com Preparations for "The Darkness" is coming along nicely. The two guests that we have invited to experience "The Darkness" is our good friend The Mayor of The Hills Shire, Clr Dr Michelle Byrne as well as one of the journalist from The Hills Shire Times Matt Hagias. Both parties have no idea what they are in for as they have been kept in total darkness for the past few months while we have been secretly testing out "The Darkness". We are also giving one of YOU the chance to experience Jack Daniels "The Darkness" that will take place on Showground Oval Castle Hill at 9:30am on the 23rd November 2013. The winner will experience first hand "The Darkness" as well as a meet and greet with Jack Daniels and be given for the very first time EVER the chance to record the event using their own recording devices. They will also receive a signed copy of The Darkness DVD. For your chance to experience The Magic of Jack Daniels "The Darkness", competition opens Monday the 4th of November 2013. Stay tuned and get ready, "The Darkness" is coming!!! The news is out. On the 23rd of November 2013 (time yet to be confirmed) Jack Daniels will be opening the doors and for the first time ever will be giving the chance for a member of the public to experience The Darkness stunt up close and personal. The winner of the prize will be experiencing the stunt first hand along with the Mayor of The Hills Shire Cr. Dr. Michelle Byrne and Hills Journalist Bev Jordan from the Hills Shire Times. The event will take place during the Castle Hill Farmers & Fine Food Market that is held twice a month at Castle Hill Showground. Details on the Competition and how to enter will be launched very soon. Today we locked in the date for our Hill stunt. After having another meeting mid last week, we needed to change the location from plan C to plan D location now. This final location is going to be even better then the first thanks to the members of the Hills Shire Council who assisted us with the idea.
I wont be revealing the date and location just yet however its very close. We will be revealing all the information you need of time, location etc etc in the coming weeks. Stay tuned and watch this space ;) Preparations are almost under way for our outdoor "stunt" demonstration that will be happening very very soon. Due to the danger of the effect we couldn't get authorisation from the RMS (Roads & Maritime Services) so we have chosen to go with option C.
We have been working on this for the past 2 months in total secrecy. Even the 2 members of the public who have agreed to take part in this "stunt" have been kept in the dark all this time and will only know what is about to unfold moments before the effect takes place. The location and the 2 members of the Hills Shire who will experience and witness the effect first hand will be kept a secret for the moment but all will be revealed very soon... We may even allow some members of the general public to come along and witness the effect unfold on the day Its that time of the year again. The crazy season is upon us. Last year we had to turn a lot of customers down as we were already heavily booked, so don't miss out on having some magic at your Halloween and/or Christmas party this year. To check for availability contact us now Having been part of the NSW Police Force myself many years ago, I have a lot of brothers and sisters who are still serving our community and keeping our streets safe. Each year, the 29th September holds a special significance for Police throughout Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and the Solomon Islands. It is a day for police to pause to honour officers whose lives have been cut short while performing their duty as a police officer. This important day is also a time to remember police officers who have lost their lives through illness or other circumstances. Remembrance Day asks people to remember the high and tough calling's Police make for our community and country. On Friday the 27th of September we honour those members of the NSW Police Force who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the execution of their duty. The NSW Police Force has a ribbon that provides an opportunity for employees and the public to show their support for National Police Remembrance Day. They have made an electronic version of the ribbon available for those people who wish to show their support via their Facebook profile picture. Please note that National Police Remembrance Day is an annual event that is traditionally observed on 29 September. With that date falling on a Sunday in 2013, National Police Remembrance Day and all related services will be held on Friday 27 September.
